Industry Job Applications

Finding a job in the right industry is a good way to not only further your professional life, but to make sure that you are happy, too. What If You’re Changing Careers?

It isn’t unusual to start out in one job, and quickly find out that it’s not right for you. If you find yourself currently in this situation, there’s no need to worry. You probably already have many of the necessary skills to succeed in other industries, even if you don’t know it yet. For example, someone with experience in a coffee shop already has much of the food safety training that they need to succeed in a restaurant. If you’ve worked as a trainer or a supervisor in that coffee shop, you probably already have the ability to be a supervisor in another industry, too. And, if you are interested in another type of career, such as sales, then you probably have the skills to be successful leading a team in this area. Now, the trick is to make employers aware of that fact. Having a strong resume that highlights your experience, expertise, and abilities is a must if you want to do this. Not all hiring managers will be aware that a strong leadership record in a café can lead to a strong career in another area, so it’s your job to show how those skills that you’ve acquired translate. Regardless of what your past career is like, you have these skills, so be sure that you are able to represent them well, both on your resume and in interview situations.

New to the Workplace?

If you’re looking for your first job, put some effort into making the right choice. Odds are you are young and enthusiastic, but taking the first job you find doesn’t make it the best choice. You should spend some time thinking about what you enjoy doing, what you’re good at, and what you want to be doing in the future. If you can find a company that satisfies all three of these categories, then the odds are you made the right choice. Now, you need to work hard at securing that job. Spend time putting together a strong resume and practicing your interview techniques.

If you don’t know the answers to all of the questions posed above, there’s plenty of time to figure them out. Some people only learn what they enjoy doing by doing it, and this opens up a lot of opportunities that you might never have considered. And because you are still young, there’s always time to make a career change without losing valuable opportunities for career advancement in the future.
