Delta Air Lines is one of the largest and most respected air travel companies in the United States. They have about 80,000 employees around the world, and they are one of the oldest airlines in the world, having been founded in 1924. If you are interested in the airline industry, this is one of the best companies to work for. Before you submit your application though, be sure that you know the things that you need to about the company in order to better your chances of landing a job.

Types of Jobs

Delta has many different types of jobs, and many different skill sets can help you be successful with this company. Some of the jobs are highly visible to the public, like flight attendants, ticket sales, customer service, and gate operators. Other roles within the company have a more behind the scenes feel to them. These include baggage handlers, pilots, software and technical support professionals, and management.

Entry level positions within the company tend to start out at about $9 per hour for baggage handlers and ticket sale representatives. As you gain experience with the company, this will go up quickly. The average wage number in this category tends to hover around $12 to $13 per hour. Flight attendants see themselves making about $41,000 per year starting out, although this can also go up once you have gained some experience with the company. Some of the higher profile roles in the company can pay well over $100,000 per year.

The company is based out of Atlanta, Georgia. If you live near this metro area, applying to work in the corporate headquarters may also be something you might wish to consider.

Why Wells Fargo?

Delta has had some ups and downs over the years, the most recent being its emergence from bankruptcy and the merger with Northwest Airlines. However, despite this, the company is stronger today than ever before. They have not just a large group of loyal customers, but loyal employees, too. This is a great company to work for, and they offer those that work hard for them great benefits. Some of the perks that qualified employees are eligible for include 401(k) planning, health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, an employee assistance program, and discounted or even free travel. Family members are also eligible for discounted travel expenses in most cases.

Who Can Apply?

To apply at Delta, you need to be at least 18 years old. A high school diploma or a GED is a must in most instances, and having a college degree can be helpful, depending on what you are pursuing. However, one of the most important characteristics of a highly qualified applicant is a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.

What’s Expected?

Delta Air Lines expects all employees to be responsible and uphold the high standards that their customers have grown to expect from the company. Employees should always be on time for their shift and should have a customer focused attitude. At times this can be very difficult as flying is stressful for many people and it brings out their bad side. Having a very patient and caring attitude is an important part of your success in this company, especially if you will be spending a lot of face to face time with customers. Being able to cope with stressful situations in a calm and professional manner will also be helpful.

External Resources:

If you are rewarded with an interview, spend time preparing for it. You should know the basics about the company, and you should have a basic idea of how you would fit in with the company. You want to also have a firm grasp on the most basic interview questions, too. Dress professionally and conservatively, and be polite and courteous to everyone—not just those involved with the interview itself. Also, write down a few questions that you might have for those interviewing you for the end of the session. This will show that you are genuinely interested in the company and how you can be of help to them.
