Cashiers can expect to make about minimum wage to start out, but once experience is gained, this number will go up. Sales associates will start out just above minimum wage, but they have the capacity to earn commissions on some sales, and this raises their pay ceiling quite a bit. Once experience is gained, associates can sometimes expect to make a base of as much as $15 or $16 per hour.
General management roles within Macy’s can see yearly salaries of as much as $120,000, especially if they prove themselves to the company as being a valuable part of the team.

You need to be 18 years old to work at Macy’s. They do not strictly require a high school diploma in order to get a job, but they do prefer that you have one. This is a retail job, and connecting with customers is the most important thing, so potential employees are given extra consideration if they have superior people skills.

Tips for Gaining Employment
In order to get a job with Macy’s you must first apply. Many locations still use paper applications that can be picked up in the store, but you can also fill out an application electronically. If you wish to do this, go to the Macy’s site, and at the very bottom of the home page, you will find a link titled “macysJOBS.” Here, you can search for jobs by location, category, or by keyword. Once you find an opportunity that suits you, you can click on the apply button, and begin the application process. Set aside at least 45 minutes to get the application completed, being sure to highlight your relevant experience, both professional and personal.
At your interview, be sure to act and look professional. You should dress in the type of formal clothing that would be found at Macy’s, so that a hiring manager will see that you have done your research and are a good fit for the position. Answer their questions succinctly and politely, but also be sure to have a few points of your own that you would like to ask about as this also shows a dedication to the potential job opportunity.
