This also includes jobs with their wholesale branch, Sam’s Club. These range from entry level and part time positions, ranging up to management positions for career oriented and mature individuals. Finding a job at Walmart might seem like a challenge because of the sheer size of the company, but it’s actually not that difficult once you focus your search.
Here are a few basic facts to get you started on your new career path.

Types of Jobs
There are literally dozens of different careers that Walmart offers. Many of these are highly visible, such as the store greeter, store associate, cashier, customer service representative, and cart retriever. These are the people that are most engaged with the customer and although they are entry level jobs, these are the individuals that are the face of the company. Other job titles include electronics associate, pharmacy technician, pharmacist, optometrist, automotive technician, stock associate, photo sales associate, and even truck driver. There are also seasonal openings, depending upon what you’re looking for.
There are management positions at Walmart stores and clubs, although these are not available with the same frequency as the above mentioned jobs. These include department managers, assistant managers, and store and district managers. If you are looking for something with a better long term outlook, Walmart does have positions open at the corporate level, as well as technology jobs for those that are looking for something that is a little bit more behind the scenes.

Why Walmart?
One of the big benefits of a career at Walmart is that their locations are huge, and as such, there are typically many job openings at any given location. And because most of them do not require high levels of education, most anybody can be qualified to work here. They have a great reputation in the business world as a publicly traded corporation on Wall Street. Despite being a huge company, they have a small business feel to them and have garnered a reputation as a moral and philanthropic corporation.
Many great careers start at Walmart. Because the company is so big, and because so many job openings exist, this is a place where a hard working individual that shows initiative could do very well, even if they start out at a small, comparatively low-paying, part time position. It is not unheard of to see people that start here work their way up to management roles or even higher.
As far as benefits go, Walmart has a 401(k) program, health, vision, and dental insurance, stock purchasing plans, and even discounts on certain items, including automobile items, travel, and some wireless plans.

Who Can Apply?
Walmart requires that their employees be at least 16 years of age for entry positions. These do not require a high school degree, but many of their advanced positions do. For certain corporate positions, a bachelor’s degree is required, especially those that require highly specialized knowledge, such as finance and risk management positions, to name a couple examples.
The people that succeed at Walmart have certain personality traits and characteristics. They have great interpersonal and communication skills, they are able to comprehend and follow directions, they are able to take responsibility for their work, and they have positive attitudes. Regardless of what your level of education is, these skills can be learned and cultivated.
Other skills can be quite helpful, depending upon what you’re looking for. In the interview process, Walmart hiring personnel do look for education. They also look highly upon retail experience, although this is certainly not always required.
If you are looking for a supervisory position, you must be at least 18 years old.
Most of the entry level positions at Walmart start out at minimum wage, but once you gain experience, you can move up quickly. For example, an experienced stock associate can expect to be making more than $10 an hour after a while. Customer service managers will see around $10 to $11, while department managers will usually start out at around $12 an hour. Assistant managers can make a salary of up to $50,000 a year, while Store managers can make up to $100,000 per year. Of course, all of this depends upon your experience, your background, and where you are located, as some parts of the country tend to see higher pay rates than others do.
What’s Expected?
Walmart is a fast moving environment. Most retail positions do require you to be alert and able to keep up in a quick place, but Walmart can be especially busy. This escalates during the holiday season, as you might expect. Employees are expected to be helpful, task oriented, and knowledgeable of their particular department. At certain times, you may be required to work weekends, nights, or other odd hours. Showing that you are a part of the team and flexible is a great way to further your career, though, so this can be to your benefit.
Tips for Gaining Employment
If you’re interested in applying for a job at Walmart, the first step is filling out the application. This can take between 30 and 60 minutes to do. Because most locations now have a computer terminal in the store where they require you to do this, make sure that you have scheduled this time and that you will have as few distractions as possible to ensure that applications are filled out correctly.

Once you’ve completed and submitted the application, you will receive a notification by email of when it was officially received. Managers typically will follow up within a week of receiving the application, but there is a benefit to going and checking on the status of your application in person. This shows that you are determined, that you actually want the job (you’d be surprised how many people apply for jobs that they don’t want!), and that you are a go-getter. This automatically sets you apart from the crowd, granted that you follow up in a professional and courteous manner.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1474159719742{margin-top: 0px !important;border-top-width: 0px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;}”]
