Subway is the go to restaurant for many people looking for high quality subs and sandwiches, and as a result, they fill a unique niche within the fast food industry. There are over 44,000 different Subway locations around the world, and more than 26,000 located in just the United States. Before you apply to work at Subway, be sure that you’ve studied the basics about the company and know for sure whether or not this opportunity is right for you.

Types of Jobs

Subway has many different job opportunities available. These include sandwich artists, senior sandwich artists, shift supervisors, assistant managers, and managers at the branch level. There are also many corporate and district level positions available, if these are more to your liking.

Entry level positions at Subway start out a touch over minimum wage, but they do go up quickly, especially if you show that you are willing to go above and beyond for the company. Having a strong work ethic here can help. Shift managers get about $9.50 per hour. Managers usually get the equivalent of $11.50 to $13 per hour starting out. If aptitude for the job is shown, then pay will go up quickly.

The international headquarters for Subway is located in Milford, Connecticut. If you are located near here, taking a corporate position could be in your best interest, granted that you have the skillset and desire to work in a job of this capacity. Some of the available corporate positions involve legal positions, accounting jobs, clerical and administrative roles, and human resources positions, just to name a few.

You don’t need a high school diploma to get a job here, but it is very helpful. For management roles, this is a requirement, and having some college experience can be to your benefit, especially if it is in a business related field. Ideally, the perfect candidate for a job here will be outgoing, hardworking, and have a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction.

What’s Expected?

They should be friendly, outgoing, and able to carry on comfortable conversations with customers. They should be able to follow directions and have the basic math skills necessary to operate a cash register without error. Subway employees are also expected to be able to follow local Department of Health guidelines and follow food safety rules for the benefit of their customers.

Tips for Gaining Employment

If you want to apply for a job with Subway, go to their homepage. At the top of this page, there is a link title “Careers.” Click on this, and you will be sent to a page where you can search through positions at local restaurants, the corporate headquarters, and through regional management positions, too. If you are unsure of what you want to do with the company, this is a good place to search around and see what actual opportunities are currently available through Subway. Once you find a job that you like, you may begin the application process. Give yourself at least half an hour to finish up the application, and then a bit more time to go through and double check everything again to ensure that you are free of errors. Once you submit your application, you should wait about a week before reaching out to the branch where you applied. It is acceptable to show up in person as long as the store is not busy, or to call. If you have doubts, call to see what times the manager will be in and ensure that they will not be too busy.

Spend some time practicing with someone that you trust and be sure to take their feedback into account so you can have a stronger actual interview. Dress in business casual attire at the very least, and always act and speak in a professional and courteous manner. Also take a bit of time to think of a few questions of your own to ask at the very end of the interview if they ask you if you have any questions for them.
