Like many other fast food companies, Wendy’s requires that their employees be at least 14 years of age. These positions are part time, and they pay minimum wage. Starting early with the company has big benefits that come along with this, though. This is a good experience, and if you decide to stay with the company after high school, it makes upward movement far more likely.
Success at Wendy’s requires a few key personality traits. You must be a hard worker, and you must be able to work well in a team setting. Having great communication skills, including an ability to listen and follow directions is also a must. Being honest, upfront, and able to help others is also a good quality if you aspire to a supervisory or managerial role. If you are starting out as a crew member, you can expect to start out at minimum wage, although hourly wages can range up to $9.00 per hour soon after hire. Shift supervisors typically make between $9.00 and $10.00 per hour. All of this, of course, depends on your experience and where your restaurant is located. Wendy’s locations in heavily populated areas may see higher pay in some instances.
When it comes to managerial positions, pay ranges from $30,000 to $45,000 per year. Most locations require that a general manager have a college degree, although this required might be waived if you have considerable experience on your resume. This is usually considered by the franchisee, so it needs to be addressed on a case by case basis.
Wendy’s has a high volume of customers on a daily basis, and it is a fast paced environment. You need to be able to multitask while dealing in a friendly manner with customers and coworkers. Being able to listen to your manager or other superior is a key part of success here, and you also need to be friendly, caring of your customers’ needs, and be able to work well in a dynamic team setting.
Tips for Gaining Employment

Experience is very helpful if you’re looking for a long term career with Wendy’s. They require experience with managerial candidates, and if you haven’t worked at Wendy’s before, you need to establish that you have the knowledge and skillset necessary to successfully run a business.
Once you apply, you will receive a follow up email notifying you that your application has been received. You can expect to hear back from a manager at your location of choice within a week or two. If you haven’t heard from them, it is acceptable to follow up in person. Dress nicely, be professional and polite, and let the manager on duty know that you are genuinely interested in the position. First impressions are very important, and even a supervisor can tell if a candidate is unfit. By acting the part, you stand a much better chance of getting the position.
