Types of Jobs
There are many careers within AMC’s theaters, many of which are entry level positions. Cashiers, ticket booth attendants, concession stand crew members, ushers, dishwashers, cooks, and janitorial roles are all available. There are also many management positions here, and because this is a quickly growing industry, these are open far more often than you might think.
Many of the entry level jobs start out by paying minimum wage. As experience is gained, this rate of pay will increase. Management positions will vary in pay, depending upon your role within the company, the location of the theater, and your experience and background. These can start out around $30,000 a year, but if you show your superiors that you can be successful, there is plenty of opportunity for getting paid more.
Corporate roles exist, and these cover a wide array of positions. These are mostly located in the Kansas City area, so if you live in this region and are interested in a new and exciting career, this could be a good career move for you. Professional roles like human resources, finance, legal, and accounting are all present here, and can be very rewarding if you have a passion for the theater.
AMC is one of the largest movie theater chains in the world. They are growing quickly, both in the number of locations and the number of employees. AMC Movie Theaters are more than just cinemas; they have concession stands, arcades, restaurants, and more, depending on the location. This chain started about 90 years ago, and has become synonymous with the theater industry as a whole. These are well established, respected theaters, and a career here is far more stable than going to a privately owned or newer chain.

Who Can Apply?
To apply for a part time job here, you must be at least 16 years old. Full time positions begin when you are 18 years old. The biggest draw to a career with AMC is the fact that you can begin with absolutely no work experience. Many people secure their first job ever with this company, and a good portion of them go on to be quite successful, either within the same industry or elsewhere.
If you are passionate about movies, or if you just are looking for a part time job while you figure out what it is you really are passionate about, this is a good job to get you started down the right path. Even if you have no work experience and are not really sure what you want out of a profession yet, this job has things to teach you and will prove to be rewarding as you advance upward.
AMC employees are expected to be willing to learn and apply what they have learned to help enhance the customers’ experience. It doesn’t matter what your role within the company is, your job is to give theater goers a memorable experience. People go to the cinema for fun and to relax, and making sure that this happens without them needing to put extra effort into it is a must. AMC employees don’t need to have a ton of work experience, but they are expected to be nice, polite, and work well with others.
If you are interested in a long term position here, a willingness to go above and beyond is needed. You might find that your manager asks you to do things that are above your job description, and being willing to learn and perform these additional duties can go a long way toward advancing both your rate of pay and your position within the company.
Tips for Gaining Employment
To apply for a position at an AMC theater, go to their home page and scroll down to the bottom of it. Here, you will find a link that says “Work at AMC.” Click on this, and you will be directed to the application page. You can choose to apply for a theater crew member position, management positions, or a corporate role from this page. The application process is not difficult for this company, but you should set aside at least 30 minutes to fill it out. This will make sure that you do it completely and don’t leave any gaps. Taking some time to think through your answers is helpful so that hiring managers can get a better feel for who you are and what you are capable of.
Once your application is submitted, expect to wait about 7 to 10 days before you hear anything back. They will either contact you by email or telephone. If you do not hear anything, it is acceptable to stop into a theater in person. Dress nicely, be polite and patient, and be sure to come in when the theater is not busy. In between matinee showings is usually best, especially on a weekday. These are typically the slowest times in the theater, and managers will be at their least busy points in the week. They might not have time for speaking with you even during these times, but it does help you to stand out from the crowd and show them that you have a genuine interest in the position that you are applying for.
