Staples Job Applications Available

Staples is one of the largest office supply retailers in the world, with over 2,000 locations. They were founded in 1986, and have seen substantial growth since then. The company has gone through some changes as the digital sales world has solidified a niche in this market, but Staples is still a strong company and has a loyal base of customers, both in store and online. If you are interested in a career with this company, here are some facts that you should know before submitting your application.

Types of Jobs

There are currently over 25,000 people that work for Staples, and there are a number of different job opportunities available through the company, many of which are entry level. These include cashiers, copy center employees, and store associates. There are also managers, supervisors, and corporate roles, not to mention warehouse employees and drivers.

Cashiers should expect to make about $8.50 to $9 per hour starting out. Store associates and copy center workers can expect a little more at $9.
Supervisory and management positions can vary in pay, depending on the role you play in the company, your experience, and your location. Supervisory roles should expect to start out a little over $10 per hour, while a general manager of a successful store can realistically expect more than $60,000 per year, after some experience at the position is attained.

Why Staples?

Staples is one of the biggest office supply companies in the world. They closed many locations a few years ago thanks to an economic downturn, but some adjustments to the company have fixed this and they are once again positioned at the top of this industry. When people need things for their offices, this is often the first place that they think to look.

Staples does a lot to take care of their employees. They have benefits like 401(k) retirement savings with a company match, health insurance, paid time off,
and employee stock purchase plans. For dedicated, hard workers, there is also some career stability here, especially at the well-established stores.

Who Can Apply?

You must be 18 to apply at Staples. They require applicants to have a high school diploma or a GED, and they prefer that you be flexible with the hours that you can work, including being able to work evenings and weekends. If you are applying for a management position, having a college degree is useful, but not a necessity, especially if you have some experience in leadership roles already.

What’s Expected?

Staples is a retail company, and having a background in sales is a must for all employees. Staples employees are expected to push sales so that they are helping the company is as profitable as possible. It’s also expected that employees always be on time for work, present when they are supposed to be, and ready to work and help customers when they are on the clock. A positive attitude and a willingness to learn is also an important part of your success within the company. Being a good salesman will follow if you can do these other things.

Tips for Gaining Employment

Your first step to getting a job at Staples is filling out a strong application. You can find the application online. Go to their home page, scroll to the bottom of the page past all of their featured sales, and then click the “Careers” link at the very bottom. This will take you to a section that allows you to search through different career opportunities. Find one nearby that you are interested in, and then begin the application process. Set aside about 30 to 45 minutes to make sure that you are undisturbed and able to fill everything out completely without distractions. Be honest, but be sure to highlight retail and customer service experience, along with any other relevant experience, both personal and professional.

External Resources

At your interview, be sure to dress professionally, be on time for the interview, and have a copy of your resume with you. Your goal is to show a hiring manager that you are able to represent the company well, so be polite and courteous, answer questions directly, and do some research on the company and your desired position before you go in—such as what you are doing right now. Be sure to think of a few questions of your own, too.
