I was contacted by a life insurance company and they asked me to come in for an interview so they could tell me more about the job. I never applied to this position, but I checked them out and they are a legit company. Should I go in for the interview, or is this a scam?
This is a recruiting tactic that many insurance companies use, and it usually has decent results for them. Insurance positions are typically commission based sales jobs, so the more employees they have selling their product, the better off they are. Also, they typically do not pay you for your training or certifications, so this is a low risk way for them to increase their sales force. What you’ll see happen is they will reach out to people that have posted their resumes on different sites, and then if they think you will be a good sales person, they will encourage you to take the exams to get your licenses. Once that happens, you can sell their product, earning money for them, and a commission for yourself. If you’re not comfortable with that kind of a pay model, this is something to avoid.
