Job Applicant QuestionsCategory: ApplicationFired from my last job
Javi B Staff asked 7 years ago

I was fired from my last job because I missed too much time thanks to a family emergency. Now I’m trying to find a new job, but I’m not sure how to approach the fact that I got fired before. If you had any suggestions, I would appreciate it!

If there is a question on your application that asks why you left your past job, you should address this, but unless you are specifically asked on the application, there’s no need to mention it at this point. Otherwise, this is something that you should address at the interview. If you make it to this step, it is because the employer believes you have potential, so you’ve already got your foot in the door. Be upfront and honest, and be assertive that this will not impact your job performance at the new opportunity. It is always better to address these things yourself than to try and tiptoe around them.
