I applied to a job a week ago, and I received an email right away saying that the job application had been received and would be reviewed soon. How long should I wait before I follow up?

There are two lines of thinking here. The first says that you should give two weeks before following up. This makes sense, especially as many jobs see a lot of applicants, and giving space is the polite thing to do. The second says that you should follow up a week later to show your interest in the job. We like this one more, but you need to be patient while doing this. Ask questions like, “I was calling to follow up on my application and see if you needed anything further from me?” This shows that you are interested, all while respecting the time and labor that goes into selecting a list of candidates.
