Job Applicant QuestionsCategory: InterviewHow to discuss salary?
Kelly Staff asked 7 years ago

At my interview for a consulting position, they told me that the salary that they were going to pay the hired person was $55k. I was hoping for at least $75k. The interview went really well, and they have called me back for another one. At what point should I bring up my salary needs?

Ideally, salary isn’t something that you should bring up until a job offer is on the table. At this point, you can begin negotiating. Just make sure that you are able to make the case for you getting a higher salary than they were expecting to pay. Bring in paperwork showing your experience in this area, and then show what the industry standard is for pay for people in your field with your experience and results. Sites like glassdoor are really good resources for finding salary information.
