I’m applying for a job and they said they were going to conduct a credit check on me before hiring. Why?

The credit check is a way for companies to gauge your responsibility. These are not done for all types of jobs, but typically only those where there is a higher level of responsibility, particularly when it comes to handling money. For example, someone with a high credit score is more statistically likely to be more mature and able to handle stress than someone with a lot of debt. A poor credit score isn’t usually an instant disqualification from a job, but rather one of many factors that are looked at. Remember that you must give your approval in order for them to legally conduct this check.
