Job Applicant QuestionsCategory: ResumeHow to talk about gaps in employment?
Jess Noel Staff asked 7 years ago

I have a couple holes in my employment history where I was unemployed for extended periods of time. I have an interview coming up, and I’m not really sure how to talk about that time off. Does anyone have experience with this or know what to do?

Many people have gaps in their employment history on their resume, and this inevitably comes up in interviews. First, don’t avoid the issue, but address it head on. Be honest about why you left your old job, what you took away from the situation, and how that experience will better prepare you for the next phase in your career.
