I was going to apply for a job, but it looks like I have to go through a recruiter first? What do they do, and is this going to help me or hurt me?
Job recruiters are often hired by large companies to assist the company find qualified applicants. They act as a go between for job seekers and the company themselves so that management at the company has a better candidate list when it comes time for interviews. It’s basically a way of screening applicants to make sure that only those that are best suited for the job get in-person interviews. Going through a recruiter will neither help nor hurt you, but because it adds an extra step to the job search, it might slow down the process of getting hired a tiny bit if it is a smaller company. Big companies find that it actually helps them find better candidates faster, though.
