Gander Mountain Job Application

Gander Mountain is one of the biggest names when it comes to outdoor sports. They were founded in Wisconsin in 1960, and currently have over 150 locations spread out over the United States. This is a smaller company in the grand scheme of things, but they still have a wide reach, especially when it comes to online sales. Gander Mountain can be a great company to work for either way. Here, you will find the basics to get you started before you begin the application process.

Types of Jobs

Gander Mountain has many different types of jobs available, most of which are entry level. In each store, there is a need for cashiers and sales associates, as well as supervisors and managers. These are the people that help customers find the things that they are looking for, make sales, and assist in customer service type roles. Entry roles can be either part time or fulltime, depending on what your specific location’s needs are. There is also a need for warehouse employees and drivers.

Starting pay for entry level jobs here start out at just under $9 per hour, then work up from there. Supervisors and managers will make quite a bit more than this. Supervisors should expect around $12 per hour, while managers can make upward of $80,000 per year once they prove themselves to the company.

Corporate jobs of various types exist as well. Their corporate headquarters are located in Minnesota.

Why Gander Mountain?

Gander Mountain has seen ups and downs, as have most retail locations thanks to the rise in prominence of the internet. Online sales have changed how almost every company operates, and Gander Mountain is no different. The company has restructured, going from a publicly traded company to a privately held one, but they are still a strong company and have a solid customer base.

Gander Mountain does their best to compensate employees competitively and reward them for their hard work. Benefits like 401(k) retirement accounts, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, health insurance, and merchandise discounts are also options. Full time employees must wait six months before having access to all of the benefits available. Part time employees gain access to these things after one year.

Who Can Apply?

You must be at least 16 to get a part time job at Gander Mountain. Fulltime employees must be 18. Certain sections of the store require you to be 18 to work in regardless of employment status because firearms are sold here. This depends on your state, as well. You do not need to have a high school diploma to get hired, but if you want to move up into a supervisory role, you should have one. Retail experience can be helpful, but it’s not required. You should mostly just have a love of sports, the outdoors, and of helping others. These will take you a long way within the company.

What’s Expected?

Gander Mountain employees are expected to do what’s right for the company while maintaining a great, professional relationship with all employees. You should always be at work, on time, and ready to work. You should also have a familiarity with the store’s layout and which products are carried so that you can fully assist all customers.

Tips for Gaining Employment

The first step to getting a job at Gander Mountain is to apply. You can apply in a store, or online. The application is found on their website, down at the bottom of the page under the “Corporate Info” tab. Click on the “Careers” link.

Once you are in that section, you can search through the job opportunities. Find the right one for you, and begin. Spend more than enough time on the application, be sure to mention any sports you are interested in, any professional experience that you have, and any other personal information that will help a hiring manager get a better feel for what you are capable of.

External Resources

At your interview, be polite, dress professionally, and bring a copy of your resume with you. Ask a few questions of your own, too, making sure that they are relevant and pertain to your career within the company. When you do this, you are helping the hiring manager get a better feel for your interest in the company.
